Collaboration XIX

“Collaboration XIX”
Multi-Media on Watercolor Paper
18″ x 24″

In 2009 I began having collaborative drawing projects take place at my command center on the North Side of Chicago. Any and all were welcome barring the following conditions: If you walk in, you must participate. If you walk in, you must respect my home. If you walk in you cannot say, “I can’t even draw a stick figure”, because that is a lie. These collaborations are about joining in a world many think foreign, but they’ve only forgotten. These projects serve to wake up the expressions and thoughts people hold back out of fear, or embarrassment, or both. The time spent creating with others is pure and honest creativity. At the end of each night, I will refine areas by inking them but then the piece is not touched again. It was a beautiful happening, there are no mistakes. No incorrect participation. The pieces live as moments in time where people came together to create something wild, or intense, or whimsical, but ultimately pure and beautiful. These pieces do not belong to me, they belong to all. Thus, any sales of prints of these collaborative artworks is donated completely to the charity I am very active with, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Each print sold helps bring us closer to a world free of MS.
